Frequently asked questions

Massage/Indian Head Massage/Facial & Foot Reflexology

What Should I Expect From My First Treatment?

You will be required you to give some details of your health history and lifestyle to establish what areas we need to address.  I will need to establish any contra-indications, list all health concerns and medications and allergies so that I can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm.

Do I Have To Completely Undress For A Full Body Massage?

You should undress to the level that you feel comfortable.  I will work around the clothes you leave on as best I can.  If removing certain garments makes you feel uncomfortable and unable to relax, then you will not get the optimum benefit from the session. I will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the couch where you will be covered by a large towel and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.

How Often Should I Have A Treatment?

This varies from person to person.  For occasional relaxation, a session every 3-6 weeks may be really beneficial.  However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to come more frequently, every 2-3 weeks then slowly taper off to a maintenance schedule.  Sometimes frequent 30-minute sessions can be very effective.  Please discuss this with me going forward. For Foot and Facial Reflexology, if you are focused on a specific health issue I would recommend that you have one session every 2 weeks or even weekly for a month (especially Facial Reflexology) then monthly as a maintenance programme.

How Will I Feel After My ‘Hands On’ Treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed, some people feel a significant decrease from long-term aches and stiffness in your muscles and joints. Some people feel some ‘tiredness’ directly after for a short period of time but then feel an increase of energy which can last for days.  Most people state that they sleep very well after a treatment.

When Should I Not Have A Therapeutic Treatment?

There are a few conditions in which I would prevent you from enjoying a therapeutic session.  You should not have a session if you have: A fever, cold or flu, a contagious or infected skin infection, epilepsy, thrombosis, recent whiplash, severe neck problems that impede your mobility.  Any other issues that you may be concerned about such as recent surgery, accidents or injuries please discuss with me before the session.  If you are under the care of your doctor, I may require approval from your GP

Are Treatments Safe In Pregnancy?

Yes, totally safe and beneficial during pregnancy.  Back massages can be performed safely at any stage of pregnancy provided it is discussed with your GP before making an appointment with me.  Some people avoid having a massage and indeed reflexology during the first trimester because the rate of miscarriage can be high during this time. Indian Head Massage is safe during any stage of pregnancy as you are only working the head, neck and shoulders and sitting in a chair.

What Do I Wear To My ‘Hands On’ Therapy?

You will never be asked to undress for Foot Reflexology or Facial Reflexology but it is best to wear loose comfortable clothing so that you feel relaxed. For Foot Reflexology and Indian Head Massage it would be beneficial to wear a loose top, perhaps a top where the straps can be pulled down so that I can access the neck and shoulders to massage easily. For Foot Reflexology, socks or tights and shoes will need to be removed. As part of the treatment I will use anti-bacterial wipes before the treatment commences.

Indian Head Massage

Where Will I Have The Treatment?

Treatments are performed in a quiet room, in a seated position.  Soothing music may be played to ensure that you are relaxed throughout the treatment, (music optional) wearing a comfortable, loose top

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The benefits of Indian Head Massage can be felt immediately, you might feel both invigorated and relaxed, calm and peaceful, yet energised.  Your body will continue to re-energise and repair itself up to 48 hours after the treatment, so it is very important that you listen to your body and try to make time to rest after a treatment.  After a treatment you may feel dehydrated and it is important that you drink enough water.  Regular sessions will multiply the beneficial effects of the massages, but you can have treatments as often as you want!

What Should I Wear?

If you would like to be massaged with oils I will provide you with a towel to wrap around your upper body.  If you prefer to be massaged with a vest top with straps that can be pulled down, that is also preferable.  If you prefer to be massaged fully clothed without oils, for your own comfort please wear a loose and comfortable tee shirt.

Do I Have To Have Oil On My Scalp?  If So, How Will The Oil Affect My Hair?

I only use organic lavender oil massaged into the scalp.  However if you would prefer not to have this, there is no obligation

Is There Anything I Should Do or Avoid After A Treatment?

To gain maximum benefit from your Indian Head Massage or indeed any of my ‘Hands On’ treatments, it is advisable to drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol in the hours immediately after treatment.  If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask me for advice.

Homeopathy

What Should I Expect From My First Consultation?

To get the most from your first consultation, it is helpful to make some notes beforehand and to think through all the issues that are affecting your health and wellbeing. I will ask you about your lifestyle, temperament, sleep patterns and medical history to form a complete picture of you. At the end of the consultation I will give you a prescription and advise you how often to take the medication.  (There may be a short delay with the prescription if I need to send for a specific remedy).

How Often Will I Need To Come Back?

The first follow up consultation will usually be around four weeks after the first prescription, is some cases it may be sooner. The number of consultations needed is difficult to predict.  It will depend on a number of factors such as your age, how long the symptoms have been going on and your individual response to the prescription.

Should I Discuss It With My Doctor?

I always recommend that you maintain your relationship with your GP or specialist.  Homeopathy and conventional approaches are often successfully used alongside one another in an integrated approach. Homeopathic remedies, which are non-toxic, will not interfere with the action of conventional drugs.  It is important to keep me informed of any changes in your prescribed medication from your doctor.

Health Kinesiology & Allergy Testing

What Should I Expect On My First Visit?

A medical and lifestyle questionnaire will be forwarded to you to complete and return prior to your first appointment in order that the treatment can be tailored to your individual needs.  We will discuss the issues which you wish to address with me.

Do I Keep My Clothes On?

Yes, you will remain fully clothed throughout the session.  I will ask you to remove your shoes before you recline on the treatment couch.

Allergy & Intolerance Testing?

I still start with a chat about why you have concerns about your allergies and symptoms you may be experiencing.  The Allergy Testing process involves me working through a list of substances and testing where your muscles show a loss of energy. Feel free to bring your own foods, chemicals, substances like cosmetics and toiletries that you feel may be causing you a problem.

BrainWorking Recursive Therapy

Are There Any Unpleasant Side Effects?

There are no lasting side effects. Some people may feel slightly 'disconnected' for a few seconds as the brain 'lets go' of the issue(s) at the end of the session.

Does the Therapy Last?

`Relapsing tends to be amazingly low after BWRT®. Some of the practitioners claim a success rate of better than 95%, but that is of course also down to the client working very closely with their practitioner in wanting a 'successful outcome'. Once a new neural pathway is established, it cannot return to the old negative neural pathways.

How Many Sessions Does A Client Have As A Rule?

For any given presenting difficulty, BWRT® is generally faster than any other therapy models. I aim to treat you in a short space of time as possible — and in some cases a single session. However, due to the nature of some issues it may take up to 4 or 5 sessions. If the problem you wish to address is more deeply rooted or is connected to how you see yourself, then I may advise a 4 week programme with a session once per week which will discussed with you at the beginning of the treatment (see pricing page).

Do I Need Permission From My GP?

If you have any underlying medical issues, I can only work with symptoms in conjunction with and alongside conventional medical care

Can I find out more?

Sure. See my BWRT website for more in-depth information
